FAQ
Depending on the child’s age and level of ability, the assessment can be play-based or can involve standardised assessments. These can involve a full assessment of their overall needs or assessments in specific areas depending on the children and families’ needs.
If you are unsure of the assessment you require, please contact our centre to discuss this with one of the therapists. Parents will be provided with a written report and recommendations following the child’s assessment.
No, we don’t provide housing assessments at the moment. Occupational therapists may be involved in such assessments to evaluate a person’s ability to perform activities of daily living within their home environment and to identify any modifications or adaptations needed to enhance their independence and safety. Unfortunately, due to insurance purposes and our current busy schedules, we are unable to offer this service at this time.
Our OTs can support your child in the following areas: sensory integration and sensory-based strategies; independent living skills and self-care, including washing and dressing, toilet training; technology recommendations for education and other activities; handwriting/fine motor assessment and recommendations; organisational skills; motor development and motor planning skill development; social-emotional development and self-regulation strategies and programs; sleep; selective eating in collaboration with other team members; play and leisure participation activities.
If your child faces challenges in activities like dressing, writing, socialising, or focusing in school, occupational therapy could be beneficial. An assessment by an occupational therapist can provide more insights.
The frequency depends on your child’s specific needs and goals. Initially, sessions may be more frequent, and as progress is made, they could become less frequent.
No. If you feel that your child requires help and support at any stage, it is best to consult with the specialists at Sensory Space. We have a variety of therapists who work as a multi-disciplinary team. You will always find the right one for you here.
Absolutely! Parent involvement is encouraged. We may provide strategies and activities for you to continue at home, fostering continuous progress.
The duration varies based on your child’s needs. Some children benefit from short-term intervention, while others may benefit from ongoing support. Progress is continually assessed to determine the best course.
Collaboration is crucial. We communicate with teachers, speech therapists, and other professionals involved in your child’s care to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach to their development.
Many private insurance plans cover occupational therapy, but it’s advisable to check with your provider for details on coverage. Our occupational therapists are registered with CORU, which is typically a requirement by private insurance companies.
Yes, we often provide home activities to reinforce what’s covered in therapy. These could include exercises to improve fine motor skills, sensory strategies, or organisational activities.
